Seriously what the eff do I do all day?

JJ Watt was recently called a try hard.
I am not a try hard
I do not hate him or think badly because he is
I am jealous...??? not really, I mean I don't know that I will ever be a try hard.
I work hard
I am proud of what I accomplish, but I am not a try hard.

You would think that I could carve out an hour or so each day to blog.
I would think you could carve an hour or so out of each day to workout

so yep
I am the normal person
I am not the overachiever that I don't even pretend to be

but I have not posted anything in 2 months, no new workouts, no new picture workouts,  nothing. Inever even got around to videos....

I have not taken any pictures to write new blogs about and I have just watched as MY super cool idea of video workouts takes over FB and the like....

Meanwhile, I am average and did not jump on my idea.

I am not depressed about it or anything, I mean it is my own dang fault. but grrr I irritate myself sometimes.

Like most people my day is full of  "stuff". Just Stuff. I am no JJ Watt, I am not a try hard. I do not rise before the sun, feet hit the ground and I am off..... I crawl out of bed, cursing Brian for waking me, shuffle to my email and text to see if anyone has canceled, happy when they have not.... lately I have a small project in the works, but this is not the time to reveal just yet, but back to the mundane...
I get Wyatt to school, I go train, come home for a mid day meal and screw off (sleep, computer etc) for an hour or so.. then Wyatt comes home and I get to hang with him, look at some homework then I am back to the gym til 8 or 9. Home shower (sometimes for "again in one day") and bed.

Stuff... I could easily spend my hour+ during the day to make videos, blog, find new adventures... push the ones I have, but I don't
I am definitely not a try hard

On my plate right now is a relay recess for the kids and a relay for life team for everyone that benefits the American Cancer Society. Do you know that I have asked and asked for people to join my team, give me money etc and I have gotten nothing... I think I just do not have the skills needed for that life.... but now I have the responsibility of both.... grrr I think I set myself up for failure on this....

Then I have a field day to do at my son's school.... why they won't just combine the two activities is beyond me... but they won't so I essentially have 2 field days to run. which is really easy IF people will show up to help out.

I have teacher appreciation to do this week (and be "DO" I mean I show up and help out).
Brian has several rides coming up, most of which really don't impact me except when he is gone, my evening training has to drop a little... then SPRING BREAK!! I am very excited about this. We are taking the boys to big bend!! whoo hoo!!

So anyway... I have gone off on a tagent and really I am not focused at all.

My initial thought process was that I am no JJ Watt, I am not a try hard, I am average, I over extend, waste time and do "my best"

Well I need to up my best and get my ass in gear so that I can make you sweat more, give kids a great day, raise money for the american cancer society and so on and so forth!

To love your job

Love it always
Although I bitch a lot
I really do LOVE LOVE LOVE this industry

I am at 2 Gyms now... One, if you read a few posts, you will see is full of yuckie ass employees.. although the members are FANFKNTASTIC!

The other is a boxing club, I don't train one on one there.... But I do group!
I love it
I love dang near everything about it

Let me start with the staff.. all teach, or train.... even the "front desk" staff. MOST are current or former boxers/kickboxers/mma peeps BUT THEY ARE NOT ASSHOLES. They are amazing human beings with a love of what they do and a desire to make others love it too!!!

I wish I could work there full time, it would be so awesome

The "pro's" as I call them, are so very encouraging and nice and helpful to me with form and combos and encouragement and then THEY ASK ME for help with running a group!

They workout together, come to each others classes and are just genuinely good people!

The owners are amazing as well... SMART business owners who know that you have to make money with a business, but that the community you serve will serve you. So for November (our current month) they are doing 2 separate FREE promotions to keep you coming in!!! The first is simple: just come in... that's right, you show up and the one that shows up the most each week gets SWAG and the one with the most for the month GETS A MONTH FREE..

Think about that, YOU as a consumer... come in and work out one a day 6 days a week and do a 2 a day on Tuesday and BAM, you win swag for the week. And you come in the most for the month and you get rewarded with MONEY!!
Look at it like this: you come get healthy, loose fat, gain strength, and then we will give you stuff!!! THIS IS HOW COMMUNITY IS BUILT!!!

The second FREE activity is a plank challenge: In every class your instructor leads a plank time, which increases with each passing day.... at the end of the month you are able to 6 min.. THEN there is a contest... the person who holds the plank the longest on "X" day wins a free month as well.

SO again you get a reward by showing up and working out... And a pretty good reward too... I mean a free month of membership is pretty good deal ESPECIALLY WHEN THE MONEY IS COMING IN DECEMBER!!!!

The contenders are amazing and encouraging, they welcome new peeps and encourage them to return.
The staff is amazeballs and I am very happy to be part of this group!!

Lies your ignorant car-salesman-of-a-trainer said

I am not a sales person
I do not "Sell" you me
I do not train you in such a way that you are dependent on me

If I were a salesman (or person whatever) then I would be financially secure.

And I would hate myself everyday

I am not inspired by the wolf of wall street or all the cool shit he had.


OMFG I hate personal trainer sales people


So here is what I hear from other more "successful" trainers


"TURN FAT INTO MUSCLE"

YOU CANNOT TURN FAT INTO MUSCLE
THEY ARE TWO DIFFERENT THINGS
FAT
MUSCLE

and this: work out no more than 15 min doing cardio at a low heart rate. You will burn more fat that way; and then when we train you get muscle and muscle WEIGHS MORE THAN FAT and YOU WILL LOSE MORE WEIGHT WITH LIFTING THAN CARDIO (a pound of fat weighs the same as a pound of feathers and a pound of muscle and a pound of bread) It is volume that they are referencing. 

fk you looser trainer..... you are wrong(ish) and an ass and omg go play in traffic!

The "burn more fat at a lower intensity" is the closest thing to truth that they tell you.... and really all it is is a skew on math.

Let's be simple... weight loss at it's simplest (and it can get confusing) is calories used are greater than calories consumed.


So you eat 5000 calories today? burn 6000


That is very exaggerated... but you get the point.


Now weight loss is more detailed and what you eat matters and blah blah blah, but we are talking basics....

so basics eat less, move more.

now the "burning fat thing"


the easier you work (low intensity) the higher percentage of "fat as fuel" is used.

HOW THE FK EVER, if you work harder you will use more fuel and you will burn more total calories and thus BURN MORE FAT CALORIES.

YEP... I mean technically, you burn a higher percentage of calories siting on your ass watching tv than jogging... but you BURN MORE CALORIES TOTAL by moving!

Kills me. The reason your used car salesman of a trainer is telling you to work less on your own with cardio is so that when they train you, the workout is that much tougher. 

So that when they train you (and keep your heart rate up at a rate IT SHOULD BE WHEN YOU DO CARDIO) you see results.

And if you are doing cardio they will tell you STRAIGHT TO YOUR FACE that you are doing TOO MUCH CARDIO.


Have you ever seen any athlete that has a lot of cardio in their sport (soccer, basketball, tennis, baseball even) with gross bodies?

30 min sessions..... IDK Rose, IDK

Started at a new gym a while back.
Interesting for sure
sessions are only 30 min so you have got to be on your game when you arrive.
There is no lacksadaisy lolligagging around.
I mean it is so hard to get in and out in 30 min

and A LOT is left on the clients shoulders.

They come in 10-15 min before the session and do cardio on their own, then we meet and work hard and fast and they are glad when it is over. Then the stretch is left up to them.

I am torn.. I mean honestly the meat of a training session is 30-45 min... let's have REAL talk.... If you are a general, normal person, you yap yap yap as much as you lift lift lift in the one on one world. YES THERE ARE EXCEPTIONS, I have worked with them.

And there are different methods of training which an hour+ is used because you are lifting at such a high rate, you NEED to have the 2 min recovery... This is all true, but I am talking about general people who are in the gym. the ones doing 8-15 reps... all my rats out there are wincing.... staaaap... It is the truth of which I speak.

So anyway it is 30 min of go time. MOST of the folks I see are S.P.E.N.T. after 10-15 min of cardio and 30 of me.... 

So again

My thing is 30 min

it takes me 30 min to have a snack (maybe a little exaggeration).

Then the biz side of it.... I get paid by the half hour, so for realz if I'm not stacking clients I'm not making money.... and God forbid real life happen and someone is 5 min late..

Let's play THAT senerio
if you are 5 min late, then you get a 25 min session (professionally speaking, don't be late). BUT you have not done the cardio part... for me you have not had a warm up... so  now the session is 20 min. ( I have to warm you up) So you get irritated because the session is so short and we are rushed

      I mean if you have a 55 min session and are 5 min late, you get a 5 min warm up... clients are still irritated, BUT you still get 45 min session... in this case you only get 20 and are irritated.

and let's jump in deeper...
I plan 28 min of very calculated activities to maximize our time together.. now I have to modify it or run over..
and running over is a HUGE thing with a 30 min stacked session.
........typically a session is split into 60 min blocks.
we work together for 55 of those
that gives me (the trainer) 5 glorious min to get you signed out and grab the next guy.
with 30 min sessions stacked back to back to back for a day, you are NOT getting 30 min. you are getting 28... let's be honest, it is gonna take 1 min 30 seconds to walk get you signed and say see ya "X" day "X" time. and 30 seconds for me to go get my next appointment.

This isn't a Dr.'s office
You will not wait 15 min for me
You will bitch, moan and complain to anyone who will listen if I am late....

AND I DON'T BLAME YOU because if you are late, you loose precious time!!
so the options are run 30 min sessions 5 min apart.....REALLY??? is that an option??? your training session is at 425 SHARP so the next one can be at 5, No, that is not reality my god it would look like this:

I wouldn't know if I was coming or going.
And to do 30 on 15 off is just crazy... I don't need 15 min in between clients that means that for every 2 clients, I don't get paid for 1....

I am just not so sure about these 30 min sessions......

Vaca I don't deserve....

So this great guy that is blinded by love enough to date me took me on a FANTASTIC vaca.
First we went to the C O U N T R Y
like a stop light MIGHT be in the future of this town country
anyway... he has a deer lease (or as he calls it: deer camp) there and we went for 2.5 days to set up new camera's and clear roads... which means I got to drive his very fancy Ford.... I didn't crash it, even though it is a Ford..

Then off to San Antonio for the rest of the almost-week... Sea World...
    Just get over your Black fish selves.... I love Sea World and they are no different than any other zoo, or safari... without them the knowledge we would have about marine life would be far less... and they had a bad orca... I know I know.. I have heard ALL your arguments.... and I am happy to have a conversation with you as soon as you drive on down here and speak to my face.... wow, sometimes I get unreasonably agitated! hahahahah

So anyway

off to Sea World for the day... made me happy and he tagged along, watched all the shows and smiled at me when he caught me looking at him. He swears he had fun, but really I think he was just being the awesome BF that he is.
Then we hung out on the river walk, took a segway tour and ate, drank, ate, drank... sleep, swim, drink drank drunk.... yep... I am a trainer, and I don't have so much a "cheat day" as a "cheat life" hence the extra body fat..... I live a real life with alcohol dinners out and stuff....

So now I am home gainfully unemployed (no FT work) AND no clients in my new town so ummmm... I need to be a better sales person on ME! I have this great fake confidence that I can't seem to make into a sales pitch of the awesomeness that really is me! I gotta flip burgers or something so that I can feed the kids!

Crazy thought I know... I mean how dare they want to eat!
HAHAHAHA...

More than a crappy gig, I hope to actually LAND a job!!! I spoke with a gym here and OMG I know why I hate small gyms that think they are the new mega spot... I saw TWO, yes people 2 separate clients from two separate trainers fall.. like F.A.L.L. to the ground in the hour+ I was there.... and they have their sales peeps train people...
I will wait while you read that again... yes, the sales people WHO ARE NOT CERTIFIED OR DECREED IN P.E. TRAIN

I can't deal with that... I would do better with no standards of coworkers at a fast food joint


so anywho I am on the job hunt, the client hunt and loved my break from reality!!
I had an amazing good time with the BF and now am back to life...

New City YET AGAIN

It is so hard to start over.
in anything generally speaking, but specifically now I am speaking of training.

I love group ex and I love training. I love it all... But starting over in a new city is very hard.
I am not a good sales person. I am funny and once I get to talking to people, they seem to like me... BUT I am not a good salesman. Sadly, in this industry, you need to be a good salesman...
Now, don't get me wrong, there are AMAZING trainers who are good sales people, but there are wa more crappy trainers that are good sales people :(
So any way... I am not a good sales man, and it is hard to be an independent trainer when you lack the sales skill..
and
I hate the way gyms are ran.
The pay is crappy
The gym always wants a no-compete

So, I get the no-compete... I can understand why. I never ran a gym that way. I never tell my trainers they cannot train at another gym or independently. BUT I get it.. When you are so insecure about your abilities to attract customers and clients, you have to restrict your trainers.

I think that is stupid.

Make your gym so fantastic that trainers WANT to train there, they want to use your facility because it is just that awesome. A client who wants to be in a gym and use gym equipment goes to a gym. It is that simple. You cater to the kind of client you want. Do you want meat heads who are shouting and grunting and posing? COOL build a gym they want to be in. Do you want something that is non-threatening so that 90% of the population that DOESN'T workout feels comfortable? COOL build that.

But you don't get that, you get restrictions and blah blah blah..

Well, time to go be awkward and try to meet some people :)

The challenge that is "IT"

Everyone in my life that matters is all smart n stuff about anything and everything IT related.... I am not...
I mean I have come a long way from my first computer... I remember very vividly the helper guy "support" telling me the explorer was the big E on my screen.....
Yeah.... I know now words like Chrome and some kind of fox....

But I wanted my screen brighter today, so I am searching and searching for the right place on the control panel and I ask Hayden (15y/o) for help... he walks in and goes the NOT the control panel and clicks a button that literally has a slide bar of brightness-ness.

My boyfriend (not S/O... I hate that) is an IT guy by trade... I have no fkn idea what he does. I know he gets irritated when customers don't do what he tells them to do and then their shit messes up and they call him in a panic....
And I relate to that b/c clients don't do what you tell them to either...

well, Monday I forgot my lunch and I just ate chocolate b/c that is all that was in the vending machine...

is this real life right now???
Subways are hard to come by, so obviously vending machine was the only option.... I know there is not a sandwich shop in your office building and it would have required you to walk 2 blocks

2. I totally see me making the same excuse!

anyways....
some things boggle me
like we can talk to people in space but my cell phone coverage varies TREMENDOUSLY from location to location and provider to provider

WHICH I mention to my super smart, totally nerxy boyfriend and he has a logical sensical answer

of course he does

something about we could get NASA quality but would need a 4th job to pay for it, would not be able to text or send snaps.....
     OMG I am old, I know this, but I love snapchat!!!
anyway... good NASA grade phone service is expensive and no cool smart phone things.

so we have mere human phones and we have to deal with towers....
I understand enough about towers to know that I am happy not knowing more.

it would be cool though to sit at home and randomly triangulate strangers then call them and make references to where they are and then ask for something completely idiotic or scruffy gets it!

why the random cell phone rant?
Well said B/F is on a motorcycle trip and his GPS tracker thing (surly it has a real name that I was told but forgot) keeps me updated on his whereabouts every 10 min.... (helpful if he quits moving so I can call for help) but I can't talk to him b/c no phone service!
